The Giraffe Weevil.

This week we used an image of a Giraffe Weevil as inspiration for our writing.

The children wrote some great pieces of descriptive writing.  As a reading task to follow this everyone made a Giraffe Weevil.

Here is the writing we have published as part of the wall display.  Have a read and let us know (by commenting on the post) what you think of it!

His body is like a strawberry that protects it.  His legs are like spider legs so it can crawl.  His legs are like my legs, he uses them to wrap up a leaf.  His neck is like a giraffe to grab things.    His snout is like a little baby hand for sniffing out food.

His snout is like an elephant trunk.  He has a bright shell.  There are pincers so he can make lines.  He makes a weird sound, he makes a creaky noise.  His legs are as skinny as a rubber band.  His shell is as bright as a new car.
                                                                                                                   Written by Jack.

This is a very rare giraffe weevil.  This is a female. She is like a giraffe.  She lives on trees.  They lay their larvae on leaves.  Her neck is very long and her legs are very long too.  Her body is red.  The female curls up the leaf and drops it to the ground.  Did you know that the Giraffe Weevil can fly?  The male has a longer neck and it kind of looks like a daddy long legs.  The female works really hard just for one larvae.

The Giraffe Weevil’s back is as shiny as the sun on the sea.  Her nick is longer than a giraffes.  Her six long legs are the size of toothpicks.  She is an unusual insect and is very unique.  Her neck is a polished black that shines in the sun.
                                                                                                                     Written by Mia.

His giraffe like neck is an oily black.  He has a shiny red shell.  He has stick legs.  He’s an unusual bug and has microscopic eyes.  He has patterns.  His shell is a shiny ruby red crystal.  He skuttles along the forest floor.                                                                                                                                                                                         Written by Pippa.

The Giraffe Weevil has a really long neck.  His legs are as skinny as a piece of string.  His back is as red as a tomato.  He lives in a rain forest.  He uses his legs for running fast.  He uses his neck to stretch himself to other branches.  He eats insects and small mice.
                                                                                                               Written by Jackson.

The shell is red like a ladybird.  He can scuttle the rough ground.  He has a long neck like a giraffe and the neck is black like coal.  The legs are long like spider legs.

The insect has legs like six really thin poles.  His neck is thin too, for fighting.  He lives in a dripping damp forest.  His body looks like a tomato, bright red.  He lives on scaly leaves, on thin twigs.  He uses his snout for picking up other little insects.

It is an unusual bug.  Its neck is as long as a giraffes and it’s legs are prickly.  It’s nose is the long thing on the end of the head.  It is sitting on a hairy leaf.

The Giraffe Weevil lives in the scary crowded forest.  He has long legs like a spider.  He is unusual.  The weevil has a long neck, a skinny snout that is dark black like a cave.  He has a very unusual neck.  He moves as fast as a cheetah.  He loves the trees in the forest.  He has a long neck because he needs to eat.  Long legs are for fighting other bugs.  It is as red as a tomato.  His back is big and fat.  They make their nest out of the tip of a leaf and roll it up.  The leaf if very soft and pokey too.

He could play hide and seek at night time with his legs and neck.  He lives on a spiky green leaf that looks hairy.  His shell is as red as a tomato.  His neck and legs look really wet.  His legs are skinny like a stick.  His neck looks wet too like wet paint.

The Giraffe Weevil has a snout that is like a finger.  It’s legs look like black bones.  It’s shell is like a saggy tomato.  It has smooth little lines.  It crawls around like a spider looking for food.

The giraffe beetle is long and skinny and it’s got a small trunk.  He has a shell that is the colour red, and black underneath.  The leaf was hard and the giraffe beetle is small like a spider.  The giraffe beetle lives in the rain forest.  The giraffe beetle is as long as a crocodile.  And eats wood and leaves.

Samoan Tapa Cloth.

As part of Samoan Language Week we made a Samoan Snowflake Tapa Cloth.  We watched a youtube video about how to make each snowflake and then followed this process ourselves.

We are very proud of the final product and we are now experts in making these snowflakes.

Planet Earth and Beyond.

We are focusing on the solar system this term in Room 2 and we have started out by looking at the planets and making a wall display with collage planets that show the size difference between the planets.

Here are the students working together on their collage projects.

The children looked closely at the planet colours and patterns and tried to replicate these.

Mid-term sharing assembly. Term 3, 2020 Room 2 would like to share with you all some of the work we have been doing over the last five week...
