TeChNoLoGy HoMe ChAlLeNgE 2018!

The following challenge was set for the children:
Just like seeds that are adapted to ‘fly’ when released from a tree, you are to make a device that will allow an ordinary table tennis ball to fall as slowly as possible (“flight time”).

The following were the only restrictions
on the challenge:
There is only two restrictions on what materials may be used in construction.
No lighter-than-air gases or powered flight to be used.

We had some very creative entries and were very proud of the students who took the time at home to make these.

Support Staff Day!

On Wednesday 16th May we spent some time making something special for our wonderful support staff members.

Image may contain: 7 people, people smiling, people sitting, food and indoor

Children spent time thinking about what made each person special and made a card or wrote a poem to present to them at morning tea time.

Some wonderful team work took place, with the children using their self management skills and team work to create some very special pieces of writing.

Reflecting on our learning.

We have had a wonderful first week back at school with children very settled and ready for another term with lots of new learning!

The children spent some time this week reflecting on the goals they set and worked towards achieving last term.  They then set some goals for this term.  Some children chose to continue working on goals from last term and others set themselves new goals.  Pop into class sometime this term to have a look at your child's goals with them.

Life Education
(Health and PE)

Room 2 had a great first session in the Life Education van where we were learning all about
'Individual identities and why my identity is important.'

Have a look at the photos with your son/daughter and ask them to talk you through what they were doing in each photo!  We took part in some really interesting activities.

THE POWER OF WORDS

Attached below is an example of just
how powerful words can be.
The children, with teacher support, took a piece
of writing and changed the adjectives to
change the mood of the writing.
This was very powerful for everyone and
we hope you enjoy seeing it too!

WAL – to identify and use adjectives for effect.

SCARY
As I walked through the terrifying forest, I could see the deadly sun up above. The dark sky was full of shadowy clouds and I could hear screeching birds singing threatening songs. The shivering leaves hung onto the deformed branches and I could feel the hungry, sucking ground beneath my feet. The bloodthirsty sun made me feel petrified and I could feel the howling wind on my face. An evil bird circled above and the skeletal trees surrounded me. I could hear the screaming stream as it made its way down from the volcanic hills and the crackling pebbles as they moved in the steaming water.

SAD
As I walked through the obsidian forest, I could see the darkening sun up above. The grey sky was full of weeping clouds and I could hear depressed birds singing dull songs. The crumpled leaves hung onto the drooping branches and I could feel the dark brown ground beneath my feet. The sad sun made me feel chilled and I could feel the whining wind on my face. A lonely bird circled above and the frowning trees surrounded me. I could hear the sobbing stream as it made its way down from the miserable hills and the crying pebbles as they moved in the dirty water.

HAPPY
As I walked through the emerald forest, I could see the smiling sun up above. The blue sky was full of fluffy clouds and I could hear cheerful birds singing happy songs. The delicate leaves hung onto the strong branches and I could feel the soft, mossy ground beneath my feet. The bright sun made me feel warm and I could feel the playful wind on my face. A cheeky bird circled above and the friendly trees surrounded me. I could hear the babbling stream as it made its way down from the colourful hills and the chattering pebbles as they moved in the clear water.

Our first senior assembly.

For those of you who were not able to come along to our first senior assembly this term, here is a little look at what we shared.

We have been learning about primary and secondary colours.  We have also looked at how to carefully mix colours together.  Come in and have a look at some of our example on the wall when you have time.
We are also learning about the artist 'Friedrich Hundertwasser' and will be exploring his works further over the next couple of weeks.

SCIENCE
We have been learning about The Water Cycle during our science lessons.  We have looked at collection, evaporation, condensation and precipitation.  The children took part in setting up some experiments to look at different processes.

We looked at condensation and precipitation through watching this experiment over time.
